Avaliação de Desempenho de um Proxy HTTP Implementado como Função Virtual de Rede

Resumo

Network Functions Virtualization is a paradigm in which network services are virtualized over generic hardware. In this approach, one of the key challenges is the performance when compared to dedicated solutions. This work evaluates the performance of an HTTP proxy in two virtualization solutions, KVM and Docker. Results show that Docker performs better than KVM, presenting proxy processing times close to those of a non-virtualized solution. However, when more isolation is required, KVM is more suitable. In this line, this work shows that the para-virtualization of KVM significantly improves performance, but not enough to overcome Docker.
